Sudan School

Fox Hornibrook Alkzlak has delivered a new 400 pupil school for the people of Yei, Southern Sudan, together with a school and community water system using solar-powered technology.

The completed school became the first ever to be delivered by a non-government company in Sudan and was opened by day long celebrations. Several VIP's were present for the speeches, including Village Chiefs and the Minister for Education.

Students of the new school were provided bags, shirts and text books to mark the opening. Toys and books were provided from Australian donors. Tables, chairs and blackboards were also donated by the project's sponsor.

The automated water system provided by Fox Hornibrook allows water to be used within the school and additionally incorporates a separate access point for local families to use. The solar-powered system replaces a traditional hand pump system located close to the school area.

Fox Hornibrook Group CEO, Matthew Hornibrook, made the following comments in his speech at the opening ceremony:

'...Today is as much a reflection on the future as it is on the past. I have thought long and hard about what can be achieved here and how we both embrace the opportunity. As a company we have looked at how we can use better-suited materials and methods to deliver easier, faster and more cost effective schools, houses, medical centers, offices and other buildings.

Ultimately, Sudan needs Fox Hornibrook. And Fox Hornibrook needs Sudan.

The long term sucess of all developing nations does not rely on unlimited aid and good will. It is achieved by hard work, education, re-education and a determination to help not only each other but also those who come to your country with new ideas and a better way of doing things. It is about embracing positive change.

We can introduce new materials, new skills and employment. We can add to the prosperity of each village or town that we work in.

But we will always need your help. We need a community spirit that makes us always feel welcome and tireless workers who are willing to learn and make a better future for themselves and their families. Our success will be your success too
